2025 James L. Mohatt Excellence in Music Scholarship Application

This talent and merit-based scholarship is available by way of audition to students of any major who have
extensive musical experience and plan to participate in one of York College's choral or instrumental
performance ensembles. For every semester this award is received, enrollment and committed participation
in an assigned YCP ensemble is required.

Performance Video

Please provide a video of your performance of the material listed below. Videos should not last more than 4 minutes.

Instrumentalists:

Play two scales with which you are very comfortable—using as much of your instrument's range as possible.
Play an excerpt of your part from an ensemble piece OR a short solo piece. Please name the excerpt or solo and the composer.

Vocalists:

Sing, without accompaniment, one verse of either Amazing Grace, The Star-Spangled Banner, or My Country Tis of Thee in a key that is comfortable for you. Then, give yourself a new starting pitch one step higher and sing the verse again in a new key.
Sing approximately 32 bars from your part of one of the pieces you are working on in your school
choral ensemble. Identify the name and composer of the piece, and the voice part you will be singing. Give yourself the starting pitch for your part.
OPTIONAL: Sing approximately 32 bars of a solo piece you are working on in private lessons with or without accompaniment.

YouTube and saving it as an 'unlisted' video. This keeps the video from showing up in search results, but makes it available for viewing to anyone that has the video link.
