Eisenhart Community Scholars Essay Questions

Answer each of the following questions briefly and honestly. Your answers should be limited to about 200 words—but don't worry if it is a bit shorter or longer.

1. What challenge do you think the York community faces that is crucially important to address, and that you personally would like to help solve? Why do you believe this is so important? What steps might you take to bring about positive change? What have you done in the past that would prepare you to contribute to solving this challenge?

2. If you could design your own college class that would help prepare students to be more engaged and valuable citizens, what would it be called and what would people learn in that class?

3. What experiences have you had with people that are different from you in some way (other cultures, other orientations, etc.)? What did those experiences teach you?

4. If you could pick the college students you would like to work with as part of the Eisenhart Community Scholars team, what would they be like? What would be their primary characteristics? Why are those traits important? And how would you contribute to a team like this?

Informed Consent- Eisenhart Community Scholars Program

The learning survey you are completing contains a number of questions that can help us to gauge the habits of mind innovative students bring with them to college. To help us to better understand the kinds of students who succeed in the Eisenhart Community Scholars Program, we’d like to keep some of the information that we gather in the admission process and use it for program improvement. We might also share what we learn with other scholars through publication and presentations.

All of the information collected will be confidential. Your name will not be associated with the responses.

You are not required to give your consent, and whether you consent or not will have no influence on inclusion in the scholar program for which you applied. The scholar program review committee will not know whether you’ve consented or not.
