Graham Collaborative Innovation Fellows Essay Questions

Answer each of the following questions briefly and honestly. Your answers should be limited to about 200 words—but don't worry if it is a bit shorter or longer.

1. Why did you choose to attend college? What parts of your college experience have lived up to your expectations and which parts have not?

2. If you could design a new college course that helped to make students more innovative and creative, what would it be called and what would people learn in that class? What kinds of activities would students engage in? How might these activities help to address problems in the ways we educate students now?

3. If given the opportunity to start your own business, what might that be? Explain why you think this business would fill an unmet need, and for whom? Briefly, how would you pitch that idea to potential customers or funders?

4. If you could pick the college students that you'd like to work with as part of the Graham Collaborative Innovation Fellows team, what would they be like? What would be their primary characteristics? And how would you contribute to a team like this? You also might include experiences you have had with people that are different from you in some way (other cultures, other orientations, etc.) and what those experiences taught you.

5. Why do you want to be a Graham Collaborative Innovation Fellow? How will it impact the remainder of your educational experience?

We want to get to know you, your plans, your dreams, and most importantly what you've been doing or have done to help you achieve them. We crave innovation and creativity! Please choose a creative medium (video, narrated slideshow, podcast, portfolio or artworks or designs, social media site, etc.) that sets you apart and identifies you as an innovator.

Tell us a story (using video, pictures, audio, and/or words) that helps us understand something important about you and how you've been spending your time and energy especially in your happiest, most productive, and/or most creative moments.
Show us something you created, in words, pictures, music, video, or however else you'd like that shows your innovative spirit.
Tell (or show) us about a new business venture/initiative/program you'd like to start, (or one you have started) or another goal you have for your future career. Again, you can use words, pictures, audio, or video.

The learning survey you are completing contains a number of questions that can help us to gauge the habits of mind innovative students bring with them to college. To help us to better understand the kinds of students who succeed in the Graham Collaborative Innovation Fellows Program, we’d like to keep some of the information that we gather in the admission process and use it for program improvement. We might also share what we learn with other scholars through publication and presentations.

All of the information collected will be confidential. Your name will not be associated with the responses.

You are not required to give your consent, and whether you consent or not will have no influence on inclusion in the scholar program for which you applied. The scholar program review committee will not know whether you’ve consented or not.
